The Stargate Rare Pairings Ficathon
The small pairings get their turn.
The 2008 sg_rarepairings Fic Battle

The Fic Battle Rules
1. This post will be open for fic (and fanart) from Tuesday, March 11th (at the latest), and be open through Sunday, March 23rd. Ish. We like to build in extra time. Just in case RL happens. And RL so very often happens, doesn't it?

2. You have the space of one comment to fit your fic in. Alternately, you can give an excerpt, and leave a link to a longer work, if you're just that awesomely inspired. :)

3. A thumbnail for fanart should be posted, along with a link to the larger work. Your thumbnail should be around 200 to 300 pixels high, and maybe 250 to 350 pixels wide, while including enough of the artwork to get a work safe idea of what it looks like. (Icons are also allowed, but let's try not to spam everyone with icons, okay? Three icons per comment, and a link to a longer post, should any of the prompts inspire iconage in great number. But only one comment per prompt.)

4. Anyone may write (or create) for any prompt! It's a ficcish free-for-all.

5. You can make as many entries as you want! (However, your mods stress quality over quantity any day of the week.) We simply request that you keep one comment per prompt. Otherwise, things get confusing. Very, very confusing.

6. The usual rare pairings rules will apply: Any and every 'ship possible in gen, het, femslash, or slash, except the four biggest, which are: Sheppard/Weir, McKay/Sheppard, Daniel/Jack, and Jack/Sam (all are awesome; also, they already get a lot of love). Threesome/Moresome fics that contain those pairings are allowed.

7. We're disallowing crossovers with non-Gateverse series, in keeping with the rules for the ficathons we've run previously on this comm.

8. All prompts are divided into Gen, Het, Femslash, Slash, and Threesome/Moresome, and then subdivided by grouping. We've ordered everything as alphabetically as possible, and by full name, in an attempt to avoid showing favoritism to any one character or pairing. (That means that, yes, if you prompted Rodney McKay/Teyla Emmagan, you will find it listed under Teyla Emmagan/Rodney McKay. We really are that OCD. Also, it allowed us to pull any duplicate prompts more easily.)

9. There are no offensive prompts allowed. Period. Nor are offensive fics. We want to keep things enjoyable for everyone participating. Your mods dislike the various -isms, and get burned up an insane amount by character or pairing bashing. (We're also severely freaked out by the thought of underage characters porning it up. Not to mention severely freaked out by the LJ-banning consequences of such. Please don't bring the PTB down on us.)

10. Please use your subject line to identify your story: 'Title, Pairing, Prompt, Genre, Rating'. This will help us organize everything nice and tidily when we post a master list.

For example: 'Eclipsed, Teyla Emmagan/Elizabeth Weir, fervent devotion, Femslash, NC-17'

11. If you have any questions or comments, please leave them on the intial prompt-gathering post. Thank you!

ETA: 12. We had a question! Yes, genderbender/genderswap fics are allowed. They may not be a part of the initial prompt, but I don't see why that should stop anyone.

ETA 02: 13. Yes, you can write your own prompts. Please feel free to!

ETA 03: 14. Regarding Spoilers. If you're worried about season four SGA spoilers, or season ten SG1 spoilers, this is not the place to be. We're not worried about those. OTOH, if you post Ark of Truth or Continuum spoilers, you will have spoiled not just most of the fandom, but your friendly mods, who will suddenly be much less friendly at you. Please post spoilery fics in your journal, and link them here with a note that there are spoilers. Thank you!

Now, let's go out, write fic, and have way too much fun!

Nice! This is creepy in all the right ways for Michael, and I love the way you convey his loneliness.
11th-Mar-2008 07:05 pm (UTC) - Selene, Teyla Emmagan/Elizabeth Weir, the moon is a goddess, Femslash, PG
She hears the balcony doors open, and Teyla's measured footsteps walk closer. Elizabeth stays motionless as she stares up at the night sky.

"The night is cold," says Teyla. "Why are you here?"

Elizabeth feels Teyla's presence prickling against her skin. She turns her head aside and glances down. Her gaze focuses on her pale hand against Atlantis' balcony. Teyla's hand covers hers. "I can't seem to stay away."

"This planet's moons are very beautiful." Teyla's voice is soft. "They draw you out when you are not supposed to be here."

"It's not the moons that bring me out tonight." Elizabeth watches their hands as the silence drags on.

"Look at me, Elizabeth." Teyla is firmer now, and Elizabeth can't help but move. Her gaze is drawn up, over Teyla's rounded stomach, then further, until she sees the soft, sad smile that Tyela gives her. "You should not be here, but I cannot find it in my heart to send you away."

"I miss you," says Elizabeth, and it's only years of iron control that keep her voice from breaking.

"My comfort is that you are safe," says Teyla. Everything that Teyla doesn't say - I love you. I need you. We need you. - Elizabeth can read in her eyes.

"But lonely." A wry smile twists Elizabeth's mouth. "This isn't all it's cracked up to be."

"Then let me ease your loneliness once more," says Teyla. Elizabeth lifts her free hand from the balcony rail and brushes the backs of her fingers against Teyla's cheek. "For as long as we have."

Elizabeth glances at the sky, then looks back at Teyla, who is silent and expectant. She nods once. "All right," she says. Her skin becomes luminous. The white glow suffuses the air around her, and with a thought, Teyla is caught up with her. They share every thought and feeling with each other.

When Elizabeth feels the attention of the others turning toward her, she holds onto Teyla a bare moment longer. It's never enough time. She gently slips away, her almost physical form dissolving into brilliant light as she floats up into the sky.

Teyla doesn't see her, but Elizabeth stays nearby. She watches faint tears slip down Teyla's face as she stares up at the night sky.

lol, love this!
11th-Mar-2008 07:21 pm (UTC) - Recognition, Jennifer Keller & Rodney McKay, Firefly TV show, gen, PG
“I finally know who you remind me of,” Rodney mentioned to Dr. Keller as he walked into the infirmary clutching his arm.

“Excuse me?”

Rodney nodded. “For the longest time I had this feeling that I’ve seen you before but I couldn’t place it.”

Jennifer Keller rolled her eyes as she gentle pushed the man towards a bed. She probably needed to check his head before taking care of the cut on his arm. When she reached her hands up to his face, Rodney frowned as moved his head back and his wounded arm forward.

“My head doesn’t hurt, although hearing Sheppard and Ronan coming up with baby names did give me a headache. It’s going away now,” he added. “You really need to take of this first. It might get infected with God knows what. You should have seen the all the rust and dirt on the scrap--” His eyes widen as he pictured the jagged piece of metal he had accidentally fallen on when a tremor rocked the abandon building they were exploring. He snapped his fingers on his good arm. “I’ll need a tetanus shot.”

“Rodney, I know what I’m doing.”

He gave her a weak smile. “Of course you do.” His glaze lingered on her face. “Have you seen Firefly?”

“Have I seen a firefly?” Confusion covered her face. She wasn’t sure where Rodney was going with this conversation. “There were a million of them in my backyard when I was going up. The neighborhood kids used go out and catch them.”

He shook his head. “No, no, no. Firefly. It was a science fiction TV show. Sheppard likes the show and he made us watch it once.”

Jennifer shook her head. “I didn’t watch much TV. I was too busy studying to really get into a show.”

“Yeah, me too. Plus any show with science in it made me cringe with the abuse of the knowledge they attempted to use. Do you know how inaccurate those shows can get?”

Jennifer knew from experience that Rodney McKay would continue to babble until someone refocused his attention back to his original thought. “What about Firefly?” she interrupted him as he started to explain about a space show he watched once.

“Oh, yes, well… There’s this character in it. She’s the ship mechanic--some ace mechanic with no training. I think her name is… Kelly…Kelsey… God, why can’t I think of her name?”

“Do you mean Kaylee?” John answered as he walked farther into the infirmary.

“That’s it. Hey, Sheppard, doesn’t Dr. Keller look like Kaylee?”

John studied Jennifer. She pretended to be entirely focus on cleaning Rodney’s wound to notice both of the men’s stares. They were making her twitchy.

“Just a little. They have the same face, and their hair is similar.” John smiled. “So, you have never seen Firefly?” She shook her head. “This Thursday we’re going to spend the night watching movies. I’m sure I can convince everyone to watch a few episodes of Firefly if you want to join us. Ronan actually likes the show, so it shouldn’t be hard to convince him.”

“Oh, I couldn’t--”

“Yes you could. I’m sure Teyla would enjoy having another girl around for the night.”

Jennifer smiled as she moved away from the men to gather several medical supplies for Rodney. “If you’re sure I won’t be intruding…”

“No intruding at all,” John confirmed. “It’ll be fun.”

Rodney frowned as realization hit. “Hey! It was my night to pick the movie out.”

“And you did, Rodney,” he was told. “It was your idea to watch Firefly.”

“No it wasn’t!”

“Was too!” They were glaring at each other. “Fine, you can pick next time, but only with Teyla’s approval.”

Rodney kept up his glare, but he was secretly happy. Teyla had plans to visit her people the whole time for their next downtime. She wouldn’t be there to veto his movie.

First part posted here, the full story at my LiveJournal

Lorne tried brute strength against the door. Col. Carter pried open a panel and jiggered the innards. Dr. Keller demonstrated Teyla’s training by taking a flying kick at it. None of it made any difference to the door. They were stuck.

“They’ll come for us when they realize we’re missing,” Col. Carter said and sat back against the wall.

“That’s what you said when we fell in that hole,” Keller added, her eyes a bit wide, looking around as if she expected the place to start shaking any moment.

“I don’t think this place is going to start rockin’ and rollin’ any time soon, Doc.,” Lorne assured her, sliding down to join them on the floor.

No sooner than his ass had touched down than a crystal in the ceiling lit up, flashing and casting colored patterns on the walls. Sort of a Pegasus galaxy version of a disco ball.

“What’d you do, Major?” Carter demanded

“Nothing! I just sat down,” Lorne replied and Jesus Christ, he didn’t need anything else blamed on him just now. His track record had taken several hits, what with the Nightmare Incident and the Lost-His-Memory-And-Became-A-Speed-Freak thing.

“It’s pretty. But that’s probably… not a good thing,” Keller said, staring up at it.

“No… probably not,” Carter said slowly. “Is it hot in here? I’m hot,” she added and pulled her jacket off.

Oh, you’re hot all right. The thought came to Lorne unbidden and some quickly receding part of him wondered where the hell that had come from.

Keller was in the midst of stripping off her own jacket when she looked over at him. “You should get out of some of those clothes, Major. Can’t have you getting heat exhaustion.”

He wasn’t that warm but he followed orders, “Okay, Doc.”

Lorne’s fingers felt clumsy and it seemed to take all his attention to unbuckle, unzip and unfasten enough to set his gear aside. When he turned back, he saw that the two women hadn’t stopped at their jackets. Oh no, they were both bare to the waist and that wasn’t all. They were kissing, hands roaming over warm skin. He could smell them, female sweat and lotions, potions, all with the musky undercurrent of arousal. It’d been awhile, but it wasn’t something he’d ever forget.

“Whoa.” The word crawled up and out of his throat as he slumped back against the wall. They barely spared him a glance.

Carter bent her head and licked Keller’s nipple. Keller’s head fell back on a gasp, her long, thick hair trailing down her back, her hands drifting up over Carter’s ribs and cupping her breasts. Slender fingers pinched one of Carter’s nipples and she broke off mouthing Keller’s nipple to kiss her, open-mouthed.

Lorne heard the soft, wet sounds of the kiss. It made his mouth go dry as his cock hardened in his pants. It was like a live-action porn movie and he felt just as locked out. In some struggling, rational part of his brain, he knew there was something wrong. Even if the women felt this for each other, he knew Col. Carter wouldn’t act on it here, in this way and in front of him, her subordinate. He shouldn’t watch, but couldn’t tear his eyes away.

Keller pulled away from the kiss, her tongue darting out over her lower lip. “I think we’re forgetting someone, Sam,” she said.

Sam looked over at him, her blue eyes narrowing. “So we are. Evan.”

The way she said his name made him so hard he ached. Then it was a swirl of color and sensation. Like a mild hallucinogenic, Ecstasy and an aphrodisiac all rolled into a cocktail that robbed him of rational thought. Jennifer was kissing him, soft and sweet, while his boots and pants disappeared

I still haven't seen the 2nd half of S4, so this may not be 100% accurate on the details!

Reavings

Some ties are never known until the bindings are reft.

Teyla returns from another fruitless search for information about Michael's ship to Colonel Carter's solemnity, Ronon's tension.

"What is it?" The question hangs portentious in the air of the Gateroom.

They look at each other, but it's Colonel Carter who speaks. "Come and see."

The infirmary sheets glow palely in the rich browns and deep blues of the infirmary walls, and his hair is a light-sucking black over pale cheeks. Teyla lets her fingers curl around his wrist, a convulsive grip, as though she can keep him from the clutches of death.

The Wraith are not the only creatures who prey on humanity; only the most sentient and the most feared. On a planet empty of humanity, an exploring SG-team encountered the flesh-hungerers. They ran, ran, ran all the way to the Stargate, but John held the rearguard and paid for it in blood.

"We detached the creatures, stabilised him," Carson says, his eyes fulll of apology as he looks from Teyla to the patient. "We've done as much as we can, evened the odds against him. But it's up to him now."

In the silence after they have gone, one by one, Teyla looks at his face and feels the tenuous tremor of her soul's dwelling cut loose. The ropes that held her together are frayed and wearing, and the winds of turmoil tug fiercely at her canvas.

Teyla has been among the Lanteans long enough to know that sometimes the body dies for want of the will to live. She does not suppose that of John.

You must live.

It is not enough of a message to send a man who lies near death, with neither Iratus retrovirus nor Wraithgene to hear the thoughts she batters against the walls of her mind.

You must live, John. Without you...

She lost her people, and never looked at the man who backed her through her search. Others would have called it a loss and left her to seek alone; he anchored her hope.

She lost her lover, and never turned to the man whose hand stayed at her shoulder - a friend and a comfort in a time of grief.

She lost her son, and did not think that John, too, had sworn his protection to her and her child.

Now, he clings to life by little more than the anchorage of hope, a tie so fragile, so easily torn apart.

Teyla clings to that anchorage and prays it will not be riven from her.

If she closed her eyes, she could almost fool herself into believing that he was human.

Merely a silent observer in the glassed room above his private room in the infirmary, Teyla had nursed her objections in the back of her mind. Dr. Weir and John Sheppard had heard them once, and she wasn't inclined to repeating herself, particularly when she knew she'd been perfectly clear the first time round. Her friends had enough objections, minute by minute, from Ronon, who was roaming the hallways of Atlantis like a caged animal.

Nothing about this experiment sat right with her.

His hand was smooth, enclosed in her own.

She hadn't expected sympathy. It welled up in her chest the moment Michael had asked if they were friends. Such an innocent question from a supposedly tame enemy, and one that she had been ill-prepared for, but her gut-reaction was to say 'yes' and go on from there. The problem, she realised later on, was that one tiny lie that compassion had created would spiral down in a continuing trend of lies that left a bitter taste in her mouth.

That wasn't who she was.

And he wasn't who he thought he was.

He smiled, and it lit up his whole face. Despite lapses in his memories, she knew he was trying to piece together the fabricated threads that they fed him. She wished she could tell the truth; she wished it wasn't so horrible.

She wished it wasn't a lie.

When the truth came out she didn't know which feeling overwhelmed her more: the frustration that he knew, or the guilt she felt for not telling him the truth sooner. She couldn't fault him his anger.

She wouldn't fault him that.

The lies, after the initial one, had been deliberate, and he had every right to feel betrayed and angry. There was rage in his eyes, deep-seated and terrifying despite his human facade. The fierceness was in stark contrast with his beautiful features, and she could barely come up with the points to Atlantis administrations reasons for doing what they had while she looked at him and knew that they'd been wrong.

What they'd done couldn't be undone.

She couldn't pretend he was human, no matter how much she tried to force herself to remember the sweet eagerness in his eyes that first day in the infirmary. She remembered fire and rage and the very real alien way that he looked at her.

She still couldn't believe that he would have really kill her.

She wouldn't give him another chance.

What memories she had she tried to forget, but the sat just below the surface, simmering in the back of her mind.

Michael was out there, and sooner or later she would have to face what she'd been party to.

Ronon had been shot in the leg, so it was Teyla who jumped the Genii soldiers when they brought John back to the cell. John would have cheered her on, but then the two guys carrying him tossed him onto the floor to go help their buddies and he had to focus on not passing out.

The next thing he knew, Ronon was peering into his face.

“You okay?”

John groaned, shakily levering himself onto his side. “Not really.” He worked at sitting up, the wounds on his back screaming in protest with every movement. “But at least we know they still haven’t caught Rodney.”

“That is good news. He will certainly have made it to the gate by now.”

Teyla’s voice sounded muffled and thick. John looked around and found her huddled against the bars of the cell door, clutching her head in her hands.

“And you,” he said. “Not that I don’t appreciate the proactive attitude, but since when do you attack when the odds suck like that?”

She lifted a bloody, bruised face and smiled around a split lip. “Since more than one of the soldiers who entered had a key to this cell.”

John blinked at her, and she pointed at Ronon, who grinned and pulled a small ring of keys from behind his back.

“She knocked him out in my direction, and while she kept the other guys busy I snagged his keys.”

“Damn,” John said. “Nice work.”

Ronon tossed the keys to Teyla; she hauled herself up and started working to find which one would open the cell.

“You going to be okay to walk?” John asked Ronon.

Ronon shot him what was probably supposed to be a withering glare, but as pale and sweaty as he was thanks to the bullet wound he mostly looked like he was about to throw up.

It took a little effort, but they both got to their feet and staggered over to Teyla as she eased the cell door open.

“You know,” John said as Teyla slipped out to check the outer room and hallway. “I think I kind of like Rodney’s idea of having team colors.”

Ronon eyed him.

“What?” John said. He tried to look casual and sincere, but he was having a hard time unclenching his teeth. His back hurt like hell. “Our team is awesome. Why not show a little pride?”

Ronon raised a bloody hand. “How about red?”

John grimaced. More than he was already grimacing from the pain, anyway. “Having team colors is supposed to boost morale. I don’t think ‘our team color is red because we always get our asses kicked and bleed all over the place’ would be good for morale.”

He glanced at Ronon’s blood-soaked pants and thought about Teyla’s face, smeared with blood from taking a rifle butt to the nose. And, okay, he was a bloody mess too, thanks to the Genii introducing him to their version of the cat-o-nine-tails. “Although you do have a point about it being an appropriate color for us.”

They heard a muffled shout and a couple of thuds. Moments later Teyla was back, carrying two Genii rifles and a handgun.

“The way is clear,” she said, handing out weapons.

As they started out Ronon whispered, “I’m not wearing team colors.”

John rolled his eyes. “It was a joke. What I was trying to say was – I just meant… You know. Our team is really fucking awesome.”

“You couldn’t have just said that?”

Teyla glanced over her shoulder and smirked.

“It’s not that hard,” Ronon said as they stepped over two unconscious Genii in the hallway. “All you have to do is say – ”

“Oh, for – never mind,” John hissed. “I take it back. You guys suck.”

From somewhere in the compound, muted by distance, the sound of gunfire erupted.

“Finally,” John muttered. “Let’s go meet up with the cavalry, shall we?”

12th-Mar-2008 02:17 pm (UTC) - Family Tree, Adria & Vala Mal Doran, blood will tell, Gen, PG
"Don't hold back, darling." Vala slams her fist into Adria's jaw. The girl's cry of pain wrenches at her heart. She doesn't let it show. "Tell me how you really feel."

Sam is just behind her. She and Daniel are frantically trying to solve Merlin's latest puzzle, while Cameron and Teal'c have come to either side of them. They train their weapons on Adria with set, grim faces.

"Why are you doing this, Mother?" Adria straightens as she steps back and touches her split lip. She looks at her own blood like it's something she's never seen before. Probably she hasn't. Every place except where Merlin's got some kind of higher power dampening field, she's been able to prevent her own injury.

"Stop it!" snaps Vala. She takes two steps forward and grips Adria's hair so she can wrench the girl forward. "You may be the daughter I never wanted, and you may be an incurable brat bent on galactic domination, but I am your mother, and you will listen to me." She doesn't look at Cameron or Teal'c. She's doesn't look for sympathy; she never will.

"You never wanted salva--" begins Adria.

"You will listen to me," snaps Vala, her voice low and quiet. "I never wanted to be raped by the Ori. I never wanted to be the one that brought blood and pain to this galaxy. I may have given birth to you, but you're their child."

Daniel's shout of triumph as the door opens tells her they need to leave. Now.

She shoves Adria away as she draws her zat in one quick movement. "Blood will tell." She fires once, and Adria crashes to the floor. No one else fires as Vala stares down at the crumpled figure of her daughter.

"Vala--" Sam's voice is impatient.

Vala slips her zat back into its holster. She doesn't look at anyone. She blinks once, and maybe her eyes are a little brighter, but only for a minute. Then they're through the door and running toward the next clue from Merlin.

Damn the Ori.
